Cinder by Marissa Meyer

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult fantasy novel, Cinder by Marissa Meyer. This book was published in January 2012 by Fiewel & Friends and has a page count of 390 pages. This is the first book in The Lunar Chronicles series. The audiobook is read by Rebecca Soler and is 10 hours & 2 minutes in length. The following overview is provided from the B&N page: Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl… Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

I loved this book. I enjoyed the slow reveal style world-building. With each new bit of information you get, a better picture of the complexity of the world comes into focus. I quickly became emotionally attached to Cinder and her story. I will be reading the rest of the books in the series because I loved this one so much. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys young adult sci-fi books.

I give this novel 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Beverly D. Williams. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the mystery romance novel, The Killing Room by Gerri Hill. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
