The Main Character Witnesses a Crime

I never thought that I would witness a crime at our Christmas in July community concert. Wyatt had been rolling a cart of French Horns to the stage when we heard Nora scream. Nora had been inflating some of the stage decorations when two masked figures attacked her and took off with two of the inflatables. Who would want a lion and a maple leaf inflatable? It was the strangest crime I could think of for our small town. Nora stood up after being knocked to the ground, inspecting her paisley dress.

“Nora, are you all right?” Wyatt to go her before I could.

“Yes, I believe so. They startled me more than anything. I don’t think they really wanted to hurt me. Did you see how they hesitated before shoving me to the ground?” Nora looked around as if trying to spot the thieves. “It’s like they faded away…”

“Faded?” I was confused by her comment.

“I was watching where they were going as they ran off and it was like they faded into nothingness. They just disappeared.”

“Could you describe anything about the one that shoved you?” Wyatt was ready to take notes on his phone.

“Yeah he had almond-colored eyes, and it felt like he had a pipe or something in his one sleeve.” Nora closed her eyes trying to remember more.

“Anything else?”

“I’m not sure. It all happened so fast. Dark clothing, possibly black cargo pants, and a black turtleneck.”

“Let’s get you over to the paramedics and let them look you over to be sure. Then one of us can take you home.” I helped Nora up.
