This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult horror novel, Killers of the Dawn by Darren Shan. This book was published in February 2003 and has a page count of 206. This novel is the seventh in the Cirque Du Freak series. The audiobook is 4 hours & 30 minutes in length and narrated by Ralph Lister. The following overview is provided from the B&N page: Outnumbered, outsmarted, and desperate, the hunters are on the run, pursued by the vampaneze, the police, and an angry mob. With their enemies clamoring for blood, the vampires prepare for a deadly battle. Is this the end for Darren and his allies?
I think that there is an unspoken sadness in this novel’s story. When motives are revealed, it is understandable to focus on the anger that comes from that. But if you look at it from a more removed aspect it is really sad how much energy has been spent on such a small slight. Given the world circumstances at play in real life at the moment, could you imagine knowing everything you know about this story and not seeing how small the offense really is? Then to think that someone let this small thing consume them for the rest of their existence. Yes, I know that people like this exist in everyday life. I used to let it make me angry unless I realized that I didn’t have to let something consume me. You can acknowledge your feelings about the situation and move on. You may not always have serene peace/closure but at least you aren’t wasting energy on something so unproductive. Miserable people like to make other people miserable. I absolutely cannot rave enough about the character complexity that is written in these novels. There is not a single character that I have met that felt one-dimensional. I cannot recommend this series enough.
I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Arieanna Renee Day. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult fiction novel, The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas. Until then keep reading on; nerd out!
