This week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the dramatized biography film, Spencer. This movie was released in 2021 and has a running time of 1 hour & 57 minutes. This film is rated R for the following reasons: mild sex & nudity; mild violence & gore; mild profanity; mild alcohol/drugs/smoking; and moderate frightening & intense scenes. Starring in this movie are Kristen Stewart, Timothy Spall, and Jack Nielen. The following overview is provided from the IMDB page: During her Christmas holiday with the royal family at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England, Diana Spencer, struggling with mental health problems, decides to end her decade-long marriage to Prince Charles.
Before watching this movie please remember that there is a title card with a notice that says “Fabled from a true story.” That means that this movie is based on true events but the events of the movie are completely made up. This is a telling of the royal marriage of the time HRH Prince Charles of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales through a horror film lens. I appreciate this film for taking such a boldly different approach to this story. I loved the actors and there were many times when I forgot that I was watching Kristen Stewart. I enjoyed this film and hope that others can appreciate it for what it is.
I give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Tomorrow for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the comedic crime series, Only Murders in the Building. Next week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the comedic family film, The Tribe. Until then keep consuming the cinema; Nerd out!
