Premise: the last moment of childhood

My wife had surprised me with a small party to celebrate my maintenance scan coming back clean. It had been a long run to this point. I liked to look back at the last moment of childhood that I didn’t know was going to be the last. It was Halloween, and even though I hadn’t been feeling myself lately my parents had agreed to let me go Trick-or-Treating. I used the refrigerator box to help construct my bird costume. My best friend, Marianne, made a pun costume for Iron Man. My only requirement for the festivities was that we start our adventure at the pier like we had the first time we ever when trick-or-treating together. You ever “hear” voices but like not really “hear” them? It was kind of like that. Something was guiding me to do certain things and it seemed to strengthen my resolve to push through the evening no matter how tired I was. Marianne and I finished off the night by stopping at the one local homeless shelter. We wanted to contribute to the candy fund they had for the kids there. Many wouldn’t have the opportunity to do anything outside of the shelter for the holiday, so we wanted to make sure it was amazing for them.
