Missing: Taquila Sherell Hayes

This week for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Taquila Sherell Hayes. Taquila is classified as an endangered missing person. She was last seen on May 21st, 2019, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Taquila was born on February 22nd, 1978, and was 41 years old when she went missing. She is described as a black female, 5’4”, 180 lbs, black hair, and brown eyes. Taquila has pierced ears and may be using her nickname, Weda.

Taquila was last seen leaving work at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, where she was a nurse on May 21st, 2019. She never returned to work and has not been confirmed to have been in contact with anyone since. Taquila missed important family events like her nephew’s graduation and her son’s birthday, he lives with his father. When questioned by authorities her husband told them that he hadn’t seen her since June 8th, when they decided to separate. He claimed that she left with a friend and left all of her belongings behind. Taquila’s supervisor at one point had spoken with Taquila’s husband and when they expressed concern and wanted the police to do a welfare check, Taquila’s husband told the supervisor she quit. Later into the investigation, Taquila’s husband confessed to impersonating Taquila over electronic communications after her disappearance. He had also gotten rid of all of her belongings and withdrew money from her account. Police did notice new carpet and paint within the husband’s residence in the months following Taquila’s disappearance as well as new carpet in Taquila’s vehicle. Taquila’s husband has since been charged with second-degree murder and tampering & fabricating evidence. Taquila’s body has never been located and foul play is suspected.

If you have any information on Taquila or her disappearance, please contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office at (901) 222-5500.
