Premise: an encounter at sea

It had been a fortnight since we had set sail. I had only gotten a smidgen of sleep since. We had been boarded and the commodore presented an indictment for one of the crew members. Apparently, John had abandoned his post in the cavalry and tried to hide aboard our boat from being sentenced for his crime. I could see the helix seal on the indictment, he was doomed if we handed him over. Christine had offered to serve everyone some tea before they departed with the prisoner. I found it to be an odd offer until I noticed the back of her spoon. It was then that I remembered the late-night lessons in the steeple. She had taught me all about different herbs in case I ever found myself in a sticky situation. She had crushed wisteria seeds into the tea. She had come up with a plan to keep from handing John over.
