This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the horror novel, The Green Mile by Stephen King. This book was published in August 1996 by Signet Books and has a page count of 432 pages. The audiobook is 13 hours & 53 minutes in length and is narrated by Frank Muller. The following overview is provided from the B&N page: Welcome to Cold Mountain Penitentiary, home to the Depression-worn men of E. Block. Convicted killers all, each awaits his turn to walk “the Green Mile,” the lime-colored linoleum corridor leading to a final meeting with Old Sparky, Cold Mountain’s electric chair. Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities over the years working the Mile, but he’s never seen anything like John Coffey—a man with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, condemned for a crime terrifying in its violence and shocking in its depravity. And in this place of ultimate retribution, Edgecombe is about to discover the terrible, wondrous truth about John Coffey—a truth that will challenge his most cherished beliefs…

Well, I think I finally found a faithful adaptation, and the fact this it is this novel makes it all the more magical for me. This story gives me chills every time I experience it. I like the serialized aspect of the structure of the storytelling. This is a beautifully written heartbreaking story of faith in the unknown. This is a must-read Stephen King novel. If you have ever wondered why he has so many fans but is not a horror fan, this is the book to real. This is the masterclass of writing. The characters make you feel a range of emotions. The circumstances of the story make you feel a range of emotions. I cannot rave enough about this book. Please go read it as soon as possible.

I give this novel 5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of B’Trice Higgin. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult horror novel, Sons of Destiny by Darren Shan. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
