Premise: In the middle of a long cold winter

This winter had been more brutal than any in our history. We had been advised by our government to only leave our homes when absolutely necessary for supplies. All fast food places were closed and the stores had limited the hours of operation to prevent people from being out in the worst of the weather. Edward checked the treads on the tires before he left to get a few things from the store. The air was so cold out that it felt like razors in your lungs when you tried to breathe. Edward’s red vest was in harsh contrast to the white powder snow that was falling at the moment. I gave him the list of things we needed with a reminder of the newest road closures. To keep the kids happy during these long, cold days, I gave them homemade coupons for different activities and treats. Kayla had redeemed her sweet treat coupon and asked for a milkshake. I would never understand how a child of mine could consume anything with ice cream when it was this cold out. Johnny asked if we could watch an episode of our favorite futuristic space opera, Girl In Space. I never turned them down on this. It was one of those few things that we had graced our life with that we all enjoyed. Hopefully, the extreme winter weather will pass soon and we can find a balance between this life and what had been our normal before.
