Room Full of Mirror by Charles R. Cross

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the musical biography Audible Original, Room Full of Mirrors by Charles R. Cross. This audio work was released in November 2006. It is performed by Lloyd James and is 13 hours & 30 minutes in length. The following overview is provided from the Audible page: For many, the name Jimi Hendrix conjures up a larger-than-life image of the man who set fire to guitars, women’s hearts, and the status quo. In this groundbreaking account, music journalist Charles R. Cross takes a far deeper look. Beyond Hendrix’s legendary onstage and offstage magnetism, and his excessive lifestyle, was a man who struggled to accept his role as an idol and privately craved the kind of normal family life he never had. Based on more than 300 interviews and never-before-seen private documents, this audiobook recounts the entire arc of Hendrix’s life, from his troubled childhood and struggle with racial prejudiced to his rapid ascent in swinging London, his headlining at Woodstock in 1969, and his death a year later. As colorful and large as the decade of the 60s, this biography gives the real Hendrix the immortality he deserves.

This was a fascinating audiobook. So many amazing stories and facts that I didn’t know before. I enjoyed the structure of this audio work. I didn’t really know much about Jimi Hendrix when I listened to this. Yet, as I listened the things, I learned made sense with what I did know of him. Learning about the things that make an artist want to create and the things that influence the creations is something I always love as a creative myself. I highly recommend this to fans of Jimi Hendrix as well as people like me.

I give this audiobook 4 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Katrina Yvette Everett. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the science fiction novel, The Regulators by Stephen King as Richard Bachman. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
