Premise: The main character goes on a trip alone to gain perspective

I was struggling with my decision to write this sequel. I have never intended for people to take the ending of the last one to be a cliffhanger and yet that is what my agent said when the publisher approached me about another novel. I didn’t like the idea that my writing projects were only meant to keep fans flocking back for the publisher to make money. I write because I love it and if there are people out there that enjoy it so be it. But I was never the type to only want commercial success. I wanted my writing to touch someone’s life like I had when I was inspired to write. I felt like it would be an insult to anyone who enjoys my book to just get a trope-filled sequel like the publisher wanted. I had decided to take a trip to sort out the next adventures. It was my sister’s vacation home and it always made me giggle as I pulled into the driveway because her mailbox is a lighthouse. Muscle memory took over and I mindlessly went about getting my stuff into the house. My room was no longer the chartreuse nightmare it had started out as. It had started to sprinkle as I unpacked so I decided that a nap was in order. After I woke, it was still raining which put me in the mood to enjoy a nice hot cup of tea on the porch. It was nice to see my sister’s love of animal print had her making cheetah print cushions for her outdoor furniture. I could see that the seedlings she had been telling me about were finally sprouting. I know she was going to be happy to hear that. She had sprained her wrist terribly when putting them in and she was worried that they would turn out because of that.
