This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the true crime Audible Original, Midnight Son by James Dommek, Jr., Josephine Holtzman, and Isaac Kestenbaum. This audio work was released in October 2019. It is 3 hours & 23 minutes in length and read by James Dommek, Jr. The following overview is provided from the Audible page: James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

This was a fantastic Audible find. I loved every bit of this audio work. It’s a compelling story to listen to. It’s not only informative about Teddy but also about their culture and why things are important to them. I highly recommend that anyone with an Audible subscription to this work. I cannot rave about it enough.

I give this Audible Original 4 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Betty Jane Lobush. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the psychological thriller novel, The Dark Half by Stephen King. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
