Premise: a teenager whose parents have unwelcome news
I didn’t care what anyone had to say about our crumbly apartment. I had grown up here and loved it. I mean it was 14 years in the same place, why would I not love it? I had been reading my favorite comic book when my mom told me t they wanted to talk to me. I had my suspicions based on the angelic nature of my mom’s voice. I think I breached my parents’ trust when I asked them to substantiate their announcements. However, they were in good spirits about it. So, over a can of soda, I was shown an ultrasound photo and an employment contract. My mother had accepted a new position as a lead engineer for a major company. My mom was pregnant and due in the fall. Because of an active shooter situation at a neighboring school, we were moving. I used my phone battery being low as an excuse to take a moment for myself. In one evening my parents ruined my life.
