The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult fiction novel, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This book was published in January 2012 by Dutton Book and has a page count of 313 pages. The audiobook is 7 hours & 14 minutes in length and is narrated by Kate Budd. The following overview is provided from the B&N page: Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

I had seen the movie a few times before I finally read this book and I have to say I am impressed. They did a really good job at adapting this novel to film. I think we lost some of Hazel’s voice in the movie. There is an even deeper desire to be independent and thought of as something more in Hazel. Hazel’s passion is infectious even through the pages. You can’t help but read her perspective on life and out at life around you a little differently. This book is profound and heartbreaking. These characters are easy to love and want to protect. And their outcomes are just as impactful on the readers as they are on their fellow characters. This is a beautifully written book and deserves every minute of praise that it has already received.

I give this novel 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Dawn Almodovar. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the Audible Original, A Woman of the World by Rebecca Gilman. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
