Lord of the Shadows by Darren Shan

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult horror novel, Lord of the Shadows by Darren Shan. This book was published in 2004 by Little,Brown and has a page count of 256 pages. The audiobook is 4 hours & 57 minutes in length and is narrated by Ralph Lister. The following overview is provided from the B&N page: Darren Shan is going home—and his world is going to hell. Old enemies await. Scores must be settled. Destiny looks certain to destroy him, and the world is doomed to fall to the Ruler of the Night…

The last novel in the series felt like filler but really it was giving you a moment to take a breath before this novel. This novel kept me on the edge of my seat as more and more information was revealed. Just when I thought the villain couldn’t be Viler, I was proved wrong. I enjoyed the full circle that this novel has Darren on. It was nice to see how his opinion of his hometown had changed after all this time away. This novel is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. I think the biggest takeaway from this book is that you really do have a choice in how you let an experience affect you. If have the choice to let it make hate grow in your heart or to find compassion in the aftermath. The writing of this series has been amazing. There are twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Knowing that there is one final book I look forward to seeing what those final moments end up being because it’s anyone’s guess. I highly recommend this series to horror fans.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Marvin Dewayne Lawson. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult fiction novel, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
