This week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the documentary short film, After Maria. This movie was released in 2019 and has a running time of 35 minutes. This film is rated TV-PG with no additional information provided on the rating. The following overview is provided from the IMDB page: Strong Puerto Rican women forced to flee the island after Hurricane Maria have bonded like family in a FEMA hotel in the Bronx. They seek stability in their new life as forces try to pull them apart.
Watching this documentary was heartbreaking. I don’t know what the right answer is for Puerto Rico but this limbo that they exist in is inhumane. I think this documentary does a good job of showing the difference in how mainlanders are treated after a natural disaster versus the colony that is Puerto Rico. Please watch this film and maybe consider voicing your support for making Puerto Rico a state. I believe it would ultimately benefit everyone but I understand why there is hesitation by those on the island to not want to be a state.
I give this film 5 out of 5 stars.
Tomorrow for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the comedic action series WandaVision. Next week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the documentary film, Schitt’s Creek: Best Wishes, Warmest Regards. Until then keep consuming the cinema; Nerd out!
