Insomnia by Stephen King

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the horror fantasy novel, Insomnia by Stephen King. This book was published in September 1994 by Viking and has a page count of 787. The audiobook is 25 hours & 39 minutes in length and is narrated by Eli Wallach. The following overview is provided from the B&N page: Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each right he wakes up a bit earlier, until he’s barely sleeping at all. During his late night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people’s heads, two strange little something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep. There’s a definite mean streak running through this small New England city; underneath its ordinary surface awesome and terrifying forces are at work. The dying has been going on in Derry for a long, long time. Now Ralph is part of it…and lack of sleep is the least of his worries.

Oh, the irony of how I consumed this book. There were a complete of nights where I could not fall asleep for the life of me. So, what did I decide to do? Read a book called Insomnia written by the Master of Horror, Stephen King. I am surprised I was able to ever sleep again after reading this book. This book haunted my dreams for weeks afterward. King is once again at it with fantastic characters that feel so real, they jump off the pages. If you are looking for a psychological thriller, this should be your next read. I highly recommend this work.

I give this novel 4 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Brian Kelly Cook. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult horror novel, The Lake of Souls by Darren Shan. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
