Premise: An alligator on the loose

*Newscast plays across a tv*

Our top local story tonight is an alligator on the loose from a petting zoo that has gone viral on social media. Locals who have seen the gator out and about have stopped to take pictures and those gained attention on social media. Now a post about the alligator has over five thousand comments and a fundraising event has been started to help fund the petting zoo. Kristina, can you tell us more about this now-famous alligator?

Thanks, Bryan. The alligator was reported as an escape to authorities late Sunday evening. The petting zoo owner, Carol, was during her typical dinner rounds when she noticed that the gator wasn’t in the enclosure. The employees quickly did a walkabout to see if maybe the gator had strolled to another part of the zoo. The alligator had been at the zoo for the last two years to rehabilitate it. It had been found near death with broken bones. Carol’s Petting Zoo is partnered with local veterinarians and wildlife officials to help with rehabilitation efforts before they return the animals to the wild. Because of a tracker, the alligator was located quickly but not before locals had spotted it. Local businessman Daryl and his daughter Luz found the reptile as they were headed to the bus stop Monday morning.

It felt like rocks clanging in my stomach when I realized what was on the sidewalk in front of us. I thought my eyes were playing tricks until my daughter said she saw it too. We weren’t sure what to do at first, but Luz was quick to grab my phone and take a picture with it in the background. She wanted to be able to show everyone at school what she had seen on her way there. I didn’t think that our picture would inspire others to find the gator.

The local sheriff has asked everyone to please not interrupt their efforts to get the alligator back to the petting zoo. They have had to call in for assistance from neighboring counties that have the equipment to transport the animals. Now let’s take a look at some of the pictures that have received some of the most likes. The first picture has this cute sign that says “NYC here I come” and was submitted by Lynda. The second picture was submitted by Terry and has them using matching prop beards. The final picture posted by Garrett is of his pet cockatoo sitting on the ground next to Gator as if they are best friends, Garret is in the background wearing a Chewbacca mask. He did confirm that his cockatoo was safe at home this evening and that there never seemed to be a threat while they were there taking a picture. That’s a picture worth a thousand words. Now back to you Bryan.
