The Magicians

This week for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the dramatic fantasy series, The Magicians. This show ran from 2015 to 2020. The series is rated TV-14 for the following reasons: mild sex & nudity, moderate violence & gore, severe profanity, severe alcohol/drugs/smoking, and moderately frightening & intense scenes. There are 65 episodes for a total of 5 seasons. Each episode has a running time of approximately 42 minutes. Starring in this show are Stella Maeve, Hale Appleman, and Arjun Gupta. The following overview is provided from IMDB: After being recruited to a secretive academy, a group of students discover that the magic they read about as children is very real-and more dangerous than they ever imagined.

I liked this show. However, I loved this show once Quentin died. I got really tired of Q’s constant whiny, self-centering at every turn. I noticed that once Q was gone the other characters were allowed to develop into more fully formed characters. They had originally come off as flat to me as everything to do with them seems to only be known based on how it could serve Q in his adventures. This show definitely had a Narnia vibe to me, which kind of put me off as a non-fan of Narnia. Penny is easily my favorite character in this series. If you like magic and fantasy books/movies/shows this is definitely one to check out. Or if you are like me, hate-watch until Q goes bye-bye and then enjoy.

I gave this series 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Wednesday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Sarah Grace Hoggle. Next week for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the reality TV series, The American Barbecue Showdown. Until then keep binge-watching the episodes; Nerd out!
