This week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the comedy film, Coming 2 America. This film was released in 2021 and has a running time of 1 hour & 50 minutes in length, It is rated PG-13 for the following reasons: moderate sex & nudity, moderate profanity, and mild alcohol/drugs/smoking. Starring in this film are Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and Shari Headley. The following plot overview is provided from IMDB: The African monarch Akeem learns he has a long-lost son in the United States and must return to America to meet this unexpected heir and build a relationship with his son.
I want to start out by saying that I liked the original film, I didn’t love it, but I liked it. I enjoyed this movie and appreciated that this was better than I thought it was going to be. You don’t have to have watched the original to understand the plot of this film. You just won’t appreciate all the things this movie has. Its release also came at the perfect time for needing some cheesy goodness after the year 2020. If you are in need of some feel-good corniness this film is for you to watch. If you enjoyed the first one, you’ll enjoy all the nods in this one to the previous one. I enjoyed the storyline and character growth on its own.
I give this film 3 out of 5 stars.
