The Mystwick School of Musicraft by Jessica Khoury

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the children’s Audible Original, The Mystwick School of Musicraft by Jessica Khoury. This audiobook was released in September 2019. This audio production is 8 hours & 18 minutes and read by Suzy Jackson. The following overview is provided from the Audible page: Amelia Jones has always dreamed of attending the Mystwick School of Musicraft, where the world’s most promising musicians learn to create musical magic. Unfortunately, Amelia botches her audition and her dream comes crashing down—until the school agrees to give her a second chance. Amelia vows to do whatever it takes to make her dream come true. However, between a teacher who really dislikes her and a roommate who wants to see her expelled, Amelia has her hands full. On top of that, supernatural powers are threatening Mystwick, and Amelia might be the only person who can save the school…but only if she can remain true to herself.

This is a fantastic work for middle-grade readers. I loved every minute of this audio work. The story had a wonderful message behind it. I liked the fact that music creates magic in this work. Two story elements I love woven together like a fine tapestry. The world structure made sense and was well-balanced in its rules and consequences. Amelia was a character that I was easily able to relate to with my own doubts and insecurities when I was her age. The conflicts with other characters were realistic and related while still existing in a magical realm. I really hope that there will be more works in this world as it’s such a well-done work, I want to revisit the characters and world again.

I give this Audible Original 4 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Marisela Fabian Hernandez. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the true crime Audible Original, Body of Proof by Darrell Brown, and Sophie Ellis. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
