Premise: A letter changes everything
There was a knock at my cottage door. A letter had been shoved into my hands. When I attempted to ask any question, the man just pointed at the letter. It became clear that any information I wanted was only going to be provided in this small envelope.
Dearest Madelyn,
It is with immeasurable guilt that I inform you on your birthday of all days that your family has died in a fire. I must request that you wait to shift through all the emotions you must be feeling upon receipt of this news. Your life is in danger. I am sending some friends with this letter to escort you to my spring home. I will do my best to get all your assets from the bank before anyone notices your departure. The Alchemist is coming for you. If you feel that the cottage is no longer safe and I haven’t gotten to you yet, head to the waterfall. If you head through the water and keep going until the roar of the water cannot be heard head to the right. There’s a safe area there with supplies to hide you for quite some time.

I didn’t bother to clean up the syrup I had dropped upon reading the contents of this letter. I quickly grabbed the few family relics I had left and began the journey. It had been the plan all along, but I never figured we would need it. Maybe that was my mistake. I had convinced myself that evil was not capable of such cruelty. Always believe a person when they show you who they are the first time.
