Hamilton

This week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the musical film, Hamilton. This movie was released in 2020 and has a running time of 2 hours & 40 minutes. This film is rated PG-13 for the following reasons: mild sex & nudity, mild violence & gore, moderate profanity, mild alcohol/drugs/smoking, and mild frightening & intense scenes. Starring in this movie are Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo, and Leslie Odom Jr. The following plot overview is provided from the IMDB pages: “Hamilton” is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and show tunes, “Hamilton” has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theater—a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. Captured at the Richard Rodgers Theater on Broadway in June 2016, the film transports its audience into the world of Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way.

I am not a musical type person and I am not a fan of colonial American history. However, Hamilton has sold me on both. While it doesn’t touch on all the trash that our founding fathers were, it made the right digs in the right places to call out modern-day American history. I also appreciated the casting of the most talented people for the role and not trying to say that only certain people could play the part based on their appearance. I had not listened to the soundtrack or consumed anything about the musical before it came to Disney+. It had been highly talked about within my circles of people. They were not wrong, even my husband enjoyed the musical during one of my many rewatches. I cannot rave enough about how amazing this musical is. I highly recommend this to everyone.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing _GENRE_ series, _NAME_. Next week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the comedic drama film, Moxie. Until then keep consuming the cinema; Nerd out!
