Web of Dreams by V.C. Andrews

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the gothic fiction novel, Web of Dreams by V.C. Andrews. This work was originally published in February 1990 by Pocket Books with a page count of 426 pages. This is the fifth novel in the Casteel Family Saga. The audiobook is 17 hours & 27 minutes in length and read by Robin Eller. The following overview is provided from B&N: Leigh VanVoreen had to escape from Boston’s Farthinggale Manor. The foul secret she harbored within her seemed to darken her life forever. Jillian, her mother, would not believe her, and Tony Tatterton, her stepfather, had betrayed her cruelly. But the pure devotion of Luke Casteel promised her hope and respect. Only Luke knew her deepest of secrets…only Luke would love and protect her. Bravely she bore the suspicions of the Willies’ hillfolk, as she tried to grasp the happiness that had so long eluded her. Leigh prayed with all her heart that her bright, shining dreams would save her from tragedy at last…

This novel answers a lot of the questions I had while reading the other books when it came to why characters did what they did. I do not blame Leigh for running as far away from the environment her mother loved. I can understand why she did that, and a lot of her other choices. When you are gaslit, and smothered the way she was, you want to rebel in every way possible. While this novel answered a lot of questions in spawn so many more in terms of Luke. I feel like I need a book that covers his perspective to understand the thought process behind his choices. He knows so much information and yet makes choices as if not know that information. I have mixed emotions about the ending of this series. But I enjoyed the entire series overall. I would recommend this series more than the Dollangangers series.

I give this novel 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of John Davis Jr. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the Audible original Proof of Love by Chisa Hutchinson. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
