The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the fantasy novel, The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King. This novel was originally published in 1984 by Viking with a page count of 326 pages. The audiobook is 10 hours & 23 minutes in length and read by Bronson Pinchot. The following overview is provided from B&N: “Once, in a kingdom called Delain, there was a king with two sons…” Thus begins one of the most unique tales that master storyteller Stephen King has ever written – a sprawling fantasy of dark magic and the struggle for absolute power that utterly transforms the destinies of two brothers born into royalty. Through this enthralling masterpiece of mythical adventure, intrigue, and terror, you will thrill to this unforgettable narrative filled with relentless, wicked enchantment, and the most terrible of secrets…

This novel is a lot lighter in tone than any of the previous works that King had released. I enjoyed his take on the fantasy genre. There were parts that felt a little too slow for me for the tone of the novel. But I liked it and recommend this to anyone who is looking for a King novel to read that is lighter in tone and theme. I am curious if King has ever done a fantasy/horror hybrid. If he has, please send me a message with the name of it so I can highlight it in my schedule. I can say the thing I love the most about reading a Stephen King story is the character development. I have never come across a character that felt flat.

I give this novel 4.5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the missing person’s case of Frank Rhoden. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult fantasy novel, Kalona’s Fall by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
