Sleepy Hollow

This week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the fantasy horror film, Sleepy Hollow. This movie was released in 1999 and has a running time of 1 hour & 45 minutes. The film is rated R for the following reasons: mild sex & nudity; severe violence & gore, mild alcohol/drugs/smoking; and moderate frightening & intense scenes. Starring in this movie are Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, and Miranda Richardson. The following plot overview is provided from IMDB: Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of three people, with the culprit being the legendary apparition, The Headless Horseman.

This film now feels like a Potter-verse reunion, I could not help myself in making jokes about it while watching. This has always been my favorite film about the Headless Horseman. I loved the legend as a child growing up. I love house monotone the color palette of this film. The only right color in the whole thing is red, which is mostly visualized with blood. Sure, there are parts where the acting/story could have been better. However, for the most part, this movie is visually amazing and helps make the legend feel real. I feel like I get lost in the visuals of this film more than any of the story. Something I have always loved about this film is the back story that they weave through this film of Ichabod Crane. I feel like that backstory helps add to the emotions and tension felt throughout the film. I highly recommend this film to anyone who loves legends and cinematography.

I give this film 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the dramatic fantasy series, Charmed. Next week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the comedic drama film, Feel the Beat. Until then keep consuming the cinema; Nerd out!
