Premise: the main character thwarts traditional gender roles

My in-laws were coming for a visit and my partner, and I could not wait for it to be over even before it began. We made jokes about all the comments they would have when they saw how I lived. My in-laws believed in traditional gender roles, but they were in for a rude awakening when they finally saw how we lived. They expected me as a woman to cook, clean, and rear the children. However, Lochlann did those things minus the fancy holiday meals, those were my responsibility. Since my last novel ended up on the bestseller list, Lochlann had suggested that we build a studio for me to work in. I was reviewing the measurements for the buttress when I saw Lochlann steer onto the driveway bringing with him his parents and stepfather. The black SUV was such a contrast to the winter snow that covered the ground. I watched as Lochlann showed them the barnyard that he was converting over a portion of for crops that he wanted to grow. My mother-in-law appeared to be unamused by the stones I used for the walkway that were shaped like goldfish. I don’t know why I had agreed to them visiting right now. I needed to finish another book before I could take some time off to enjoy life. Although, maybe their visiting right now would spark the creative energy I needed to finally finish the project. I really didn’t know what was going to come of this. But I silently said my prayers as I heard them enter my house.
