This week for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the fantasy action-adventure series, The Witcher. This series debuted in 2019. It is rated TV-MA for the following reasons: severe sex & nudity, severe violence & gore, moderate profanity, mild alcohol/drugs/smoking, and moderately frightening & intense scenes. There is one season for a total of 8 episodes. Each episode has a running time of 1 hour. Starring in this series are Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra. The following plot overview is provided from IMDB: Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.
Unpopular opinion, I did not like this show. I hated the pacing and thought that it took way too long to make me care about any of the characters. When it takes up to the last three episodes of a season for it to pique my curiosity, no thank you. I do not know that I will be watching season two as I did not care too much for season one. I can see how this show would interest fantasy lovers. However, it was just not my thing. I think the casting was fine, the problem to me seems to be the script/storytelling. Maybe season two will have better pacing and storytelling to it. I will not be watching any trailers for the new season but will end up watching it with those in my life who enjoy the show.
I give this series 3 out of 5 stars.
