The Stanford Prison Experiment

This week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the dramatic biopic, The Stanford Prison Experiment. This film was released in 2015 and has a running time of 2 hours & 2 minutes. The movie is rated R for the following reasons: moderate sex & nudity, moderate violence & gore, severe profanity, mild alcohol/drugs/smoking, and severe frightening & intense scenes. Starring in this film are Ezra Miller, Tye Sheridan, and Billy Crudup. The following plot overview is provided from IMDB: In 1971, twenty-four male students are selected to take on randomly assigned roles of prisoners and guards in a mock prison situated in the basement of the Stanford psychology building.

This film was amazing. The actors were fantastic, and the casting was amazing. I can’t rave about this movie enough. The most haunting thing walking away from it is the real-life outcome of this experiment. This biopic is one of the most compelling I have ever seen. While this experiment was meant to prove one point, so many other things came up. I wish that we could revisit the purpose of the experiment and make the changes to the system that it could have if things with the experiment had gone off the rails. When a two-week experiment meant to look at how incarceration affects the mind, and ultimately changes the teacher/student dynamic in the educational system, it had to be an intense experience. Everyone should watch this movie it is amazing.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the dramatic fantasy series, Locke & Key. Next week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the dramatic film, To the Bone. Until then keep seizing the cinema; Nerd out!
