Missing Maura Murray

This week for the Spotcast Sunday feature, I am reviewing the true-crime podcast, Missing Maura Murray. This podcast debuted in 2015. There are 196 episodes available according to the Apple Podcast page. The following description is provided from the same Apple Podcast page: Maura was a 21-year-old student in February of 2004 when she inexplicably drove three hours from her dorm in Amherst, Massachusetts to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and vanished. At around 7:30 p.m., her vehicle was involved in a single-car, non-life-threatening accident at a hairpin turn on dark & desolate Route 112. She has not been seen or heard from since. Now two filmmakers set out to find answers on this mystery by diving deep into Maura’s life, the region in which she went missing, and the online world of citizen detectives.

I enjoyed the part of this podcast that focused on Maura’s disappearance. Right now it is going through growing pains as Lance and Tim are trying to bring attention to more missing persons cases. I appreciate that the hosts are willing to admit when they get something wrong or misspoke about something. Accountability matters to me when we are talking about real people and cases. I feel like the thing the podcast is missing right now is structure. Not all the cases they cover now are done the same way and it’s a little jarring for me because I never know what to expect. I listen because feel like they will find their groove eventually. If you like unsolved missing persons’ cases definitely listen to the Maura Murray episodes.

I give this podcast 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the documentary film, The Bleeding Edge. Next week for the Spotcast Sunday feature, I am reviewing the true crime podcast, The True Crime Enthusiast. Until then keep listening on; Nerd out!
