Wish I Was Here

This week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the comedic drama film, Wish I Was Here. This movie was released in July 2014 and has a running time of 1 hour & 46 minutes. This film is rated R for the following reasons: mild sex & nudity; mild violence & gore; severe profanity; mild alcohol/drugs/smoking; mild frightening & intense scenes. Starring in this movie are Zach Braff, Joey King, and Pierce Gagnon. The following plot overview is provided from IMDB: A struggling actor, father and husband finds himself at a major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his family and his career.

I loved this movie for so many reasons. I have faced major crossroads in my life a few times and this was such a relatable storyline. I also enjoyed the complexity of letting your children be who they are whether or not it’s something you would choose for them. I related to each of the family members for different reasons. The casting was well done, and I do not think you could have picked a better group. There was not a scene in this film that felt forced. There was an organic feeling to the storytelling. Each scene, conversation, and interaction between characters had a purpose no matter how mundane. Honestly, my favorite part was watching Aiden take Grace to the wig shop. That moment between father and daughter was so meaningful to me. I wish I had had parents that would have encouraged me to embrace who I was and be fearless.

I give this film 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the comedic drama series, Atypical. Next week for the Movie Monday feature, I am reviewing the comedic drama film, Manson Family Vacation. Until then keep seizing the cinema; Nerd out!
