The Dead Zone by Stephen King

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I’m reviewing the horror novel, The Dead Zone by Stephen King. This book was published in 1979 with a page count of 428 pages. The audiobook is 16 hours and 12 minutes long and read by James Franco. The following overview is provided from Barnes and Noble: Johnny Smith awakens from a five-coma after his car accident and discovers that he can see people’s futures and pasts when he touches them. Many consider his talent a gift; Johnny feels cursed. His fiancée married another man during his coma and people clamor for him to solve their problems. When Johnny has a disturbing vision after he shakes the hand of an ambitious and amoral politician, he must decide if he should take drastic action to change the future.

This was a good read. I enjoyed it and loved the plot. This is what I would expect from King at this point in my read-through of his works. I took the time to listen to the audiobook as well. I was a little hesitant about the work being read by James Franco. Franco can be a hit or miss for me. However, this was well done. In areas that came off flat to me when read, had weight to them thanks to Franco’s performance. I liked this novel however it doesn’t break into the top 3 for me.

I give this novel 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I’m reviewing the fifth book in the House of Night novel, Hunted. Until then read on; Nerd out!
