Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered by Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the biography novel, Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered by Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark. This book was published in May 2019 with a page count of 304 pages. The audiobook is 6 hours & 31 minutes in length and is read by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, and the introduction is read by Paul Giamatti. The following overview is provided from Barnes & Noble: Sharing never-before-heard stories ranging from their struggles with depression, eating disorders, and addiction, Karen and Georgia irreverently recount their biggest mistakes and deepest fears, reflecting on the formative life events that shaped them into two of the most followed voices in the nation. In Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered, Karen and Georgia focus on the importance of self-advocating and valuing personal safety over being ‘nice’ or ‘helpful.’ They delve into their own pasts, true crime stories, and beyond to discuss meaningful cultural and societal issues with fierce empathy and unapologetic frankness.

I loved this book. I related to Karen and Georgia’s stories. My absolute favorite chapter is Fuck Politeness. I love how this came to be from the podcast and explained here. I have cried tears relating to these stories, feeling like I am seen and understood for the first time in a long time. The story about worshipping at the altar of doubt hit home for me. This book has so many good stories in it. I highly recommend the audiobook as well. Getting to listen to the hosts share their stories, some even recorded at live shows is the best. There is just something about when an author reads their own memoir that I love. Once you read it let me know if you were a latch-key kid like I was.

I give this novel 4 out of 5 stars.

Sunday for the Spotcast Sunday feature, I am reviewing the true-crime podcast, Empty Frames. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the Audible Original, The Dead Drink First by Dale Maharidge. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
