Pet Semetary by Stephen King

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the horror novel, Pet Semetary by Stephen King. This book was published in November 1983 by Doubleday and has a page count of 373 pages. The audiobook is 15 hours & 41 minutes in length and read by Michael C. Hall. The following overview is provided from Barnes & Noble: When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Despite Ludlow’s tranquility, an undercurrent of danger exists here. Those trucks on the road outside the Creed’s beautiful old home travel by just a little too quickly, for one thing…as is evidenced by the makeshift graveyard in the nearby woods where generations of children have buried their beloved pets. Then there are the warnings to Louis both real and from the depths of his nightmares that he should not venture beyond the borders of this little graveyard where another burial ground lures with seductive promises and ungodly temptations. A blood-chilling truth is hidden there—one more terrifying than death itself, and hideously more powerful. As Louise is about to discover for himself sometimes, dead is better…

I loved this novel so much that it is in my Top 3 favorite King works. There were so many related aspects to this story. I felt every bit of plight as a parent. For trying your best to weigh whether or not to talk to your child about death to deal with the unimaginable. I even relate to waking up disoriented and finding things off from what you remember last. This makes me rethink old-school pet cemeteries. I wonder how many had legends similar to this story or how many people have dreamed of something similar. King has a way of constructing scenes that make me eager to read the next work. I cannot recommend King’s novels enough for Horror fans.

I give this novel 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the Charley Project profile of Jean A. Johnson. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult fantasy novel, Hidden by P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
