Premise: A hostage situation

I could feel a trickle of sweat run down my side as we were held hostage. I nervously traced my fingers along the edge of a terracotta potted plant. It was cool to the touch which helped distract the panic I was trying to contain. Suddenly, I could hear one of the captors. I couldn’t make out everything being said, but I caught enough to understand it was a list of demands.

“My pledge to you is this, if our demands are not met in the next six hours we start plugging them.”

There was a slamming sound that I assumed was a phone being hung up. One of the other captors was practicing karate moves. It made me think of a child who couldn’t sit still while their parents needed to do something.

“Hey, you any more Hawaiian rolls?” the karate captor asked the demanded one.

“No, there’s only licorice left.” The man growled.

“Do you think they will give in?”

“I don’t know, but I don’t see why not. Maybe we could annoy some of the hostages with this and it can help our case.”

The man took a kazoo out of his lapel and slid it to the childish-acting man. It was at this point that I regretted, my first day on the job.
