Fallen Hearts by V.C. Andrews

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the gothic horror novel, Fallen Hearts by V.C. Andrews. This work was published in August 1988 by Gallery Publishing with a page count of 416 pages. This is the third novel in the Casteel series. The audiobook version is 11 hours & 13 minutes in length and is narrated by Candace Thaxton. The following plot overview is provided from Barnes & Noble: As Logan’s bride, Heaven would savor now the love she had sought for so long. And free from her father’s clutches, she would live again in her backwoods town, a respected teacher and cherished wife. But after a wedding trip to Boston’s Farthinggale Manor and a lavish, elegant party, Heaven and Logan are persuaded to stay…lured by Tony Tatterton’s guile to live amongst the Tatterton wealth and privilege. Then the ghosts of Heaven’s past rise up once more, writhing around her fragile happiness…threatening her precious love with scandal and jealousy, sinister passions, and dangerous dreams.

The more I read of this series the more, I relate to Heaven. It also makes me question what V.C. Andrews’ home life was like given the themes of the books she wrote while alive. I am wondering if the shift from Andrews to the ghostwriter will be felt at all in these books. I cannot stand Tony Tatterton and wish he would find his way permanently out of Heaven’s life. I am not sorry about Jillian, her vanity was beyond gross to me. I am curious to see where Heaven will go from here. There are so many questions I have about where the story could go but I do not want to speculate since I have rarely been correct in predictions for Andrews’s works.

I give this novel 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Saturday feature, I am highlighting the Charley Project profile of Deborah Lusk. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the Audible original Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World by Scott McCormick. Until then keep reading on the chapters; Nerd out!
