Christine by Stephen King

This week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the horror novel, Christine by Stephen King. This book was originally published in April 1983 by Viking Press with a page count of 526 pages. The audiobook is 19 hours & 35 minutes in length and read by Holter Graham. The following overview is provided from Barnes & Noble: Evil is alive in Libertyville. It inhabits a custom-painted red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine and young Arnold Cunningham, who buys it. Along with Arnold’s girlfriend, Leigh Cabot, Dennis Guilder attempts to find out the real truth behind Christine and finds more than he bargained for: from murder to suicide, there’s a peculiar feeling that surrounds Christine—she gets revenge on anyone standing in her path. Can Dennis save Arnold from the wrath of Christine?

I liked the audiobook more than the print for this story. I struggled to maintain interest when reading the print version. I still struggled with parts of the story, but the audiobook kept my attention better. The best part of this book is the last third of it. Christine currently is 10th on my list of favorite King novels. I found myself struggling to relate to the characters in an overall manner but did relate to certain sentiments that the characters expressed during the story. I enjoyed the premise of this novel a lot; it is something of nightmares come to life on the pages. To be hunted by something so common for people to use would have to bring about a particular type of paranoia. I have to admit that while listening to the audiobook, I had an image of Grease with a possessed car playing in my head. The print book is okay in my opinion but I highly recommend the audiobook. Holter Graham does an amazing job bringing this story to life in audio format.

I give this novel 4 out of 5 stars.

Sunday for the Spotcast Sunday feature, I am reviewing the true crime podcast, The True Crime Enthusiast. Next week for the Fiction Friday feature, I am reviewing the young adult fantasy novel, Lenobia’s Vow by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast. Until then keep reading on; Nerd out!
