American Horror Story

This week for the TV Tuesday feature, I’m reviewing the dramatic horror series, American Horror Story. The show debuted in 2011. It is rated TV-MA for the following reasons: severe sex & nudity, severe violence & gore, severe profanity, severe alcohol/drugs/smoking, and severe frightening/intense scenes. There are ten seasons for a total of 108 episodes, however only nine seasons have aired so far, and I was only able to watch 8. Starring in this series are Lady Gaga, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett. The following plot summary is provided from IMDB: An anthology series centering on different characters and locations, including a house with a murderous past, an insane asylum, a witch coven, a freakshow circus, a haunted hotel, a possessed farmhouse, a cult, the apocalypse, and a slasher summer camp.

I love this series even though I don’t love every season. I rank the seasons as follows: Apocalypse (8), Coven (3), Hotel (5), Murder House (1), Cult (6), Asylum (2), Freakshow (4), Roanoke (7). The casting is on point each season, even when a new person is added to the cast, they fit in in the most organic way. I was disappointed in Roanoke but if doing that season is what got me Apocalypse then to me it was worth it. The storytelling is so well done. The way they are able to intertwine real-life facts within this fictional world is superb. I don’t think I have enjoyed a horror series like this since Rose Red of the 90s. If enjoy horror and hauntings this series is a must-watch. It is graphic and gory at times, as well as intense subject content.

I give this series 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Wednesday feature, I’m highlighting the Doe Network profile of Edward J. Hoag. Next week for the TV Tuesday feature I’m reviewing the documentary series, Amazing Interiors. Until then keep bingeing the episodes. Nerd out!
