Alias Grace

This week for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the crime drama series, Alias Grace. This show ran from 2017-2017. This series is rated TV-MA for the following reasons: mild sex & nudity; moderate violence & gore; mild profanity; mild alcohol/drugs/smoking; moderately frightening & intense scenes. Starring in this show are Sarah Gadon, Edward Holcroft, and Rebecca Liddiard. The following plot overview is provided from IMDB: In 19th century Canada, a psychiatrist weighs whether a murderess should be pardoned due to insanity.

I can see why this show failed to make it passed one season. It took far too long for me to get interested in the main character. If you cannot make me care in the first episode or two then it’s probably not going to be a show that makes it very far. I was over halfway through the season before I actually cared what happened to Grace. Even at that, it was not until the end of the season that I felt the urge to know what would happen next. It’s disappointing for me because the writer of the book that this show is based on also wrote The Handmaid’s Tale (highly recommend). I think that if this show had been given the chance to have a second season it would have been better than the first. However, I can understand not investing in something that did not generate the audience that they had hoped for. Just because something is based on a successful written work does not mean that it will be a success. If you want to check this show out go for it, I think I am going to read the book and watch the show again to see if I can figure out where it all went so wrong.

I give this show 3 out of 5 stars.

Tomorrow for the Missing Person Wednesday feature, I am highlighting the Doe Network profile of Erica Nicole Hunt. Next week for the TV Tuesday feature, I am reviewing the drama series, Rectify. Until then keep binge-watching the episodes; Nerd out!
